His Excellency Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India paid a two days visit to the State of Kuwait from June 09-11, 2021. This visit is a part of the enhanced high level exchanges in the context of 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between India and Kuwait.
On Thursday Morning, Dr. Jaishankar met His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al-Sabah and handed over a letter to him, from the Indian Prime Minister His Excellency, Shri Narendra Modi addressed to His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait. He also appreciated Kuwait’s efforts and role it played in the recent circumstances faced by the Republic of India and expressed gratitude for the provision of Liquid Medical Oxygen by the State of Kuwait to fight the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India.
Ahead of his delegation level talks, during an official meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and with Dr. Abdullah Issa Al-Salman, Minister of Trade and Industry of the State of Kuwait, both the sides addressed the framework for strengthening the strategic partnership between the State of Kuwait and Republic of India and reviewed all aspects of closed and distinguished cooperation in various vital and crucial areas especially healthcare and food security, also including education sector development, information technology, diverse energy fields, economic, commercial and investment sectors and ways to develop future prospects in common interests between the two countries and their friendly people.
Both Sides agreed to hold the first meeting of Kuwait- India joint commission meeting later this year and also to set dates for early meetings of Joint Working Groups on Health, Hydrocarbon and Manpower. The two sides also agreed to set up new Joint Working Groups in other areas of cooperation.
Both the countries signed a MoU for cooperation on the recruitment of the domestic workers. The MoU brings the Indian domestic workers in Kuwait within the legal framework of recruitment process and provide them with protection of Law.
With this MoU, the total number of signed agreements and memorandum of understanding between both the countries reached 34, which again reflects the determination of the two friendly countries to develop and consolidate bilateral relations in all fields and at various levels to serve the interests of the two countries and their friendly people.
To mark the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of India, a joint celebration was launched in the same meeting and will continue through the year 2021-2022. Especially since this year completed 60th year of diplomatic ties, both the countries take pride in the march of deep and historic relations and strategic partnership in all fields and at various levels.
His Excellency Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India completes his visit today and later tonight will be departing from Kuwait.
