Set during the 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine’s Donbas region, the film tells the story of a pacifist, hippie high school physics teacher who, originally seeking peace and harmony with nature, is compelled to join the Ukrainian military as a sniper when war erupts in Donbas. Mykola Voronenko lives a peaceful life with his pregnant wife until Russian soldiers invade his hometown. After losing everything in a violent attack, Mykola joins a group of civilian partisans, eventually becoming a skilled sniper. As he navigates the brutal realities of war, Mykola is forced to confront painful choices, including taking a risky shot to save a hostage. As his journey unfolds, he is forced to confront the harsh realities of survival and the emotional burden of his choices. The story draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of Mykola Voronin, the scriptwriter, who was a schoolteacher before enlisting in the military.
